Garner has lots to do during the summer months, but two of my family’s favorites include the Music Off Main concert series and the Garner Parks & Rec Outdoor movie series. Both events give us the opportunities to spend time outdoors and allows for inexpensive entertainment practically in our back yard.
The Music Off Man series is in its sixth year and runs monthly from May to Sept. The venue used to be on Main St Garner, but it has been moved to the back Lawn of the
Garner Performing Arts Center (125 Avery Street) to give more space and accommodate parking.
Entertainment starts at 6pm and runs to 9pm and bands vary from beach music to reggae, to classic rock to country. Bring your chairs or blankets, but coolers are not allowed. Family-friendly food and beverages available for purchase. And the best part…the event is free!!

Lake Benson Park (921 Buffaloe Road) is the scene for Friday Family Flicks. These movies are family friendly with a 30-foot outdoor movie screen placed on the main stage. Don’t forget your chairs or blankets to sit on the grassy slope in front of the stage. Refreshments are for sale but coolers are welcome. These movies are FREE to the public. Come early to get a good seat. Movies begin at 8:30 p.m.
Ever wanted to spend the night at Lake Benson Park? Bring your tents and camping gear and spend the night sleeping under the stars after the movie. You must register in advance though. You can arrive as early as 6 p.m. to set up your campsite and they must be broken down by 10am on Sat. No portable grills, alcohol or pets allowed at this event.
