Driving out of town to stand in long lines or relying on an uncertain mail transactions are not great options, which makes a local office all the more appealing. But town leaders and local business people are going to have to make it happen - and quickly.
By MARK CONE The Department of Transportation has begun accepting applications from those who may wish to assume the operations of the DMV license plate office in Southern Nash County, relieving the long lines and wait times at facilities in Rocky Mount, Wilson, Louisburg, and Zebulon. According to an official at DMV, who asked not to be identified, the department decided to explore offering a contract in Southern Nash County because of the expected growth as the Raleigh area continues to rapidly expand to the east.
With low voter turnout statewide, there had been some speculation if some of the "sure thing" primary races might actually be close. In the end there were no surprises in the Nash County races with County Commissioner Lisa Stone Barnes winning by a wide margin over challenger Glen Bradley in the Republican primary for N.C. House District 7 which covers southern Nash County and all of Franklin County.

She has a court hearing May 21. a Montaraious T. Baskerville, 21, of 840 N. Beckford Drive, Henderson, was charged via criminal summons April 10 with fraud. He has a court hearing May 21. a Sherman C. Tabon, 44, of 110 Watson Drive, Henderson, was charged via order for arrest April 10 with contempt of court/perjury/court violations.
